What is the ICF Core Set for Deafblindness?

A set of 218 WHO-developed codes used to describe how deafblindness affects communication, mobility, daily activities, and social participation.

Its purpose aims to improve diagnosis, understanding, and personalized care.

Understanding deafblindness:

Deafblindness may be:

• Congenital – present at birth or before language development
• Acquired – developed later in life

It affects each person differently and may require:

• Tactile sign language
• Braille
• Assistive technology
• Trained support workers/interveners

Thus, the ICF helps identify each individual’s specific needs.
